UK Dashboard/Energy/Renewables

Renewables

Wind, solar, and other renewable electricity generation from NESO data.

What counts as renewable?

Renewable electricity comes from sources that naturally replenish: wind (onshore and offshore), solar PV, hydroelectric, wave, tidal, and biomass. Nuclear is low-carbon but not classified as renewable.

UK renewables growth

Renewables have grown rapidly in the UK, from around 7% of generation in 2010 to over 40% by 2023. Offshore wind has been the largest contributor to this growth.

Renewables Share of Generation

Renewables Share of UK Electricity

Daily percentage of electricity from renewable sources (wind, solar, hydro, biomass). From NESO Historic Generation Mix.

Generation by Source

Wind Generation

Wind Electricity Generation

Daily electricity from grid-connected wind farms. Includes onshore and offshore wind.

Solar Generation

Solar Electricity Generation

Daily electricity from solar PV. Shows clear seasonal variation.
