Electricity Generation
Daily UK electricity generation by fuel type from NESO grid data.
Electricity generation measures how much electrical power is produced by UK power stations. Data is aggregated from half-hourly grid readings to daily totals measured in gigawatt-hours (GWh).
The UK generates electricity from multiple sources: natural gas (largest), wind (growing rapidly), nuclear (steady baseload), solar, biomass, and declining coal. The mix varies by season and weather conditions.
Total Electricity Generation
Daily total electricity generation from all sources. Data from NESO Historic Generation Mix.
GB Electricity Demand
Daily metered GB national electricity demand (outturn, not forecast). Data from NESO Historic Demand Data.
Demand is how much electricity Great Britain actually uses, while generation above is how much is produced. The two differ because of interconnector imports/exports and transmission losses. Both are shown as daily gigawatt-hours (GWh), so you can add them to a single chart in Chart Studio.

Gas Generation
Daily electricity from natural gas plants (CCGT and other gas). Largest source of UK electricity.
Wind Generation
Daily electricity from grid-connected wind farms (onshore and offshore combined).
Nuclear Generation
Daily electricity from nuclear power stations. Provides baseload power.
Solar Generation
Daily electricity from solar PV. Varies significantly by season.

Units: Gigawatt-hours (GWh) per day. Original data is in MW (megawatts) at 30-minute intervals, aggregated to daily energy totals.
