This chart shows how the price index for household energy (electricity, gas and other fuels) has moved relative to the overall consumer price index. Both series use the ONS 2015=100 base, so they are compared directly without rebasing.
This chart shows how two price indices have moved, but it does not prove a single cause for changes in energy or overall prices. Energy prices are one component of the wider CPI basket, so the two series are related and not fully independent.
