CPI vs CPIH vs RPI Inflation

This chart compares the three main UK annual inflation measures — CPI, CPIH and RPI — using official ONS data.

What this chart shows

This chart shows the annual rate of inflation measured three ways: CPI (the Bank of England's target measure), CPIH (which adds owner-occupier housing costs) and RPI (an older legacy measure). All three are annual percentage changes, so they are compared directly.

What this cannot prove

This chart shows how the headline inflation measures differ, but it does not prove which measure is 'correct' for any purpose. RPI is not an Accredited Official Statistic and should be treated with caution.
