What are tax receipts?

Tax receipts represent the total revenue collected by the government from all forms of taxation, including income tax, national insurance, VAT, corporation tax, and other duties.

This data shows central government tax receipts on a cumulative financial year-to-date basis. The financial year runs from April to March.

Tax receipts are a key indicator of economic health - they tend to rise when the economy is growing (higher incomes and spending) and fall during recessions.
